Amendment to Regulation on “Grandfathered” Health Plans
On June 17th, the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and the Treasury (the Departments) issued the “grandfather” regulation which, by addressing how health plans can retain a “grandfathered” exemption from certain new requirements, helps protect Americans’ ability to keep their current plan if they like it. At the same time, Americans in grandfathered plans will receive many of the added benefits that the new law provides. The regulation also minimizes market disruption and helps put us on a path toward the competitive, patient-centered market of the future.

Small Group Specialist Designation
If you have taken the SB79 8 hour CE, passed the exam and are a member of either TAHU or NAHU, then you can now earn the Small Group Specialist DESIGNATION (SGS)! That’s right, the SB79 CE is now a designation.

Recap: Vendor Day
FWAHU’s Annual Vendor Day was held on October 14th from 10am-3pm at Rolling Hills Country Club. The 4th quarter is a busy time for agents and it can be difficult to meet with all your carrier reps to get the most up-to-date information available.
Recap: Medicare Vendor Day
As SIX tornadoes touched down, dedicated AHU members from all over the state swam into FWAHU\’s 3rd annual Medicare Day–with over 140 participants. Topics and 5 hours of CE ranged from Medicare changes, health care reform, and alternative income sources not affected by reform.
November Luncheon

New Member Spotlight: Rachael Alt
Rachael Alt O’Reilly has been with Alt Bentley Yates, Inc. (formerly known as Alt Benefit Consultants, Inc.) for more than 4 years. Rachael decided to join FWAHU to follow in her mother’s footsteps, and become more involved in the industry. This way she will be better equipped to educate her clients and help simplify their plan administration.
October President\’s Message
Come check out our vendor Update Day on October 14. We have 25 carriers represented. Each will give us a 5-10 minute update. With 4th quarter being so hectic for everyone, this will be a good ‘catch all’.
Healthy Texas Program
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is excited to announce that it has signed contracts with Celtic Insurance Company and United Healthcare to be participating health plans for the Healthy Texas program. Once enrollment begins, interested employers will make application directly to one of these participating plans, or apply through an insurance agent.
