Special Event: The Healthcare Debate
FWAHU hosted a special CE event on Thursday, September 25th: “The Healthcare Debate – An Election Year Perspective” presented by Beverly Davis of Aetna. This dicscussion covered the Healthcare initiatives of John McCain and Barack Obama.
FWAHU Participates in Heart Walk
In September, FWAHU held a friendly competition with DAHU on the American Heart Association2008 Heart Walk. DAHU barely edged us on total contributions, but our brave participants weathered the rain and wind from Hurricane Ike to raise approximately $1400 combined for the American Heart Association!
August Recap: Mike Smith on LTC
At our August luncheon, former FWAHU president Mike Smith discussed the future of Long Term Care Insurance. The ‘Baby Boomer’ generation is beginning to turn 65 and as those numbers of seniors increase, LTC will become an increasingly important benefit. It is extremely important to have a working knowledge of both the group and individual product.
September Preview: 3 Legislative Presentations
During this election year, nothing is more important to our industry that the relationship that we have personally and as an association, with our legislators. At our September meeting, TAHU Lobbyist, Lee Manross, along with Misty Baker, will present three programs designed to help us all with the important task of working with our own state legislators to help shape the debate on health care issues.
Help FWAHU Raise $$$ for the American Heart Association!
We have been challenged by DAHU to see which Chapter can raise the most money for this worthy cause!! Dallas and Fort Worth are both hosting a Heart Walk on September 13, 2008. Fort Worth’s will be along the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth, Texas.

We\’ve Moved!!! New Location – Rolling Hills
FWAHU has moved our meeting location to Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, TX. We are very excited about this move and we invite everyone to attend a monthly luncheon at the new facility.

The Fort Worth AHU has historically been intertwined with that of TAHU and NAHU, with a number of the most effective leaders of both the state and national organizations hailing from our chapter.

Legislative Update – Long-Term Care Partnerships
The Texas Department of Insurance will be having a hearing August 12 to discuss proposed rules concerning Long Term Care Partnership policies. These policies became approved when Senate Bill 22 passed during the last session.
