Most of you remember me as the CE or Continuing Education Committee for FWAHU a few years back. Times and names have changed and we are now officially known as the Professional Development Committee.
Although we go by a different name, we want to inform you as a reminder of what the current requirements are for all Group-I licensed Agents in the State of Texas. You are required to have 30 hours of continuing education every two years, with 15 hours of classroom time; included in that 30 hours is a 2 hour Ethics Course. Licensees who on or after January 1, 2003, and have been continuously licensed by the department for at least 20 years may apply for an exemption from the CE requirements. Licensees shall apply for this exemption by submitting a written request to the department indicating that they have met the longevity requirement. Licensees must satisfy the continuing education requirements through the end of the 20th year of licensure.
There are also new certifications that are available from TAHU and NAHU. TAHU has developed the Small Group Certification (SGS) for TAHU members in good standing that have taken the 8 hour course that also count for CE Credit. As a reminder, if you already have the SGS designation you are also required to take the 5 hour recertification course every year.
NAHU Certification Courses include: Consumer Directed Health Care Certification (CDHC), Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act (PPACA), Self-Funded Certification, Voluntary Worksite Certification, and Wellness Certification.
